Privacy Policy

This page explains which personal data this website processes, why, and which rights you have. In short: the site sets no cookies, and it loads the analytics, the comments and videos only if you agree.

Who is responsible

Peter Braith
Berresgasse 11
1220 Wien, Austria, daspetemail@gmail.com. Write to this address with any question about your data.

When you visit the site

To deliver a page, the server receives what every browser sends: your IP address, the page you ask for, the time, and the name and version of your browser. The server uses your IP address to limit how many requests a single visitor can send in a minute, which protects the site from overload, and forgets the count after that minute. The servers and the proxy in front of them also write the requests to log files, which help to find faults and attacks. The log files are rotated and overwritten after a short time. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in running the site securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Analytics with Plausible

If you agree, the site counts visits with Plausible Analytics, which runs at analytics.dev.alpenstudios.com. Plausible uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. From your IP address and your browser it computes an identifier that changes every day, so visits can be counted without recognising you. The IP address itself is not stored. What is recorded: the page, the page you came from, your browser, operating system, type of device and country. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Comments with giscus and GitHub

The comments under the tutorials are GitHub Discussions, shown with giscus. If you agree, or click Load comments, your browser loads the comments from giscus.app and pictures from GitHub, and both receive your IP address. To write a comment, you sign in with GitHub. giscus then keeps a sign-in token in your browser, and your comment is public on GitHub. GitHub is run by GitHub, Inc. in the USA, which takes part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and GitHub's privacy statement applies to everything you do there. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Videos from YouTube

A tutorial can contain a video from YouTube. It loads only if you agree, or click Load video, from youtube-nocookie.com, and then Google receives your IP address. Google's privacy policy applies to the video. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

What is stored in your browser

The site sets no cookies. It remembers your choice in the consent bar in the local storage of your browser, under the name consent, until you change it. Change or withdraw your consent at any time with Privacy settings at the bottom of every page.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to data portability and to object (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can withdraw a consent at any time, which does not affect what happened before. If you think the processing of your data breaks data protection law, you can complain to the Austrian data protection authority, the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Wien, dsb.gv.at.
